Featured Agent: Maria Munoz

Maria Munoz has worked in real estate for over five years, specializing in short sales and first-time homeowners. Incorporating her past experience as a mortgage specialist, she is able to bring unparalleled and reputable service to her clients. Currently residing in the West Loop, Maria has lived in Chicago her entire life. We sat down with Maria today for a short interview.

First of all Maria, thank you for taking the time to chat with us.  What got you into the world of real estate?

I was in the mortgage industry since 1997, I helped people mortgage their homes and refinance. In 2007 I figured I could help people in real estate too. Of course in 2008, the mortgage and real estate industries tanked and from there I got into helping people more with short sales and foreclosures. I was simply just trying to help people get out of the bind the were in; such as being unable to refinance their loans, their mortgages were underwater, and so on.

What do you love most about your job?

I love the fact that I'm able to place people in homes, especially in today's market where there's a lot of people couldn't afford it back then, because they couldn't get a mortgage or wasn't making enough money. Now these buyers are coming out of the woodwork: cash buyers, first-time home buyers, and they're happy to be finally able to afford a home. And now there's plenty of homes for them to buy.

I love the fact that I can set my own hours, though often I find myself working longer hours than I originally planned. But the flexibility is nice, I can work from home, or on the road, or in the office. I love the freedom that the line of work affords me.

What is your brokerage style?

Well 90% of my work come from referrals. I'm also trying to get into the social media realm, and it's been pretty successful so far.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love exercising and working out. I try to work out before I head into the office, because at the end of the day there is no way I'd be able to make it the gym. I also love volunteering and helping the homeless. I also try to stay up-to-date with real estate and market news of the day.

Do you have any restaurant recommendations for our readers?

I absolutely love Mecardito on Kinzie, they have a great variety of magaritas and tequilas to choose from. I like to try something new every time I go, so I don't really have a favorite dish. But their tacos are some of the best I've had!
